With the scrutiny continuing of nomination papers of the candidates trying their luck for posts at the three- tier rural polls, the nomination paper of a candidate for the post of gram pradhan at Chhuriya panchayat under Kapkot block in Bageshwar district was rejected on the ground that his house had no toilet.
Informing this, the block development officer, Kapkot, Khyali Ram said that the gram pradhan candidate had filed a false affidavit during nomination-filing, stating that his house had a toilet as per the norms. But investigation that followed the complaint made by his rival candidate found his statement false.
After the nomination of the candidate was rejected, the rival candidate who had made the complaint was elected unopposed in the absence of any other candidate for the post.
Notably, the candidate whose nomination was rejected had had his house built under Atal Awas Yojana and it is mandatory for a house built under this scheme to have a toilet.
