Friday, 13 July 2018 | PNS | Dehradun– Acting tough on the strike threat issued by the employees, the management of the GVK EMRI 108 emergency ambulance service has warned that the service of the employees who join the strike would be terminated. Making an appeal to the agitating workers of the service, the State head of the emergency ambulance service Manish Tinku said that the service is associated emergency medical care of the people and in view of this, the decision to go to strike by the workers of the ambulance service is unjustified and against the public interest. He added that if some worker of the organisation engages in disruption of this important service legal action would be taken against him. Tinku claimed that a total of 100 employees have been kept by the GVK EMRI as a backup for the striking workers. The workers of the 108 service have decided to go on an indefinite strike from July 26 if their demands are not met by then. The workers have sent letters intimating about their strike plans to the (DG) health and the State head of  the ambulance service. There are more than 750 workers in the GVK EMRI emergency ambulance service. These workers are demanding that contract system in 108 -ambulance service should be stopped and Haryana model in which the ambulances are operated by the National Health Mission (NHM) should be implemented in U’khand. The workers are also demanding their duty hours be reduced from 12 hours to 8 hours a day. The GVK-EMRI has started the process of recruitment of new field and other staffers to ensure that the services remain unaffected in case of strike.
