An avalanche occurred in the Chorabadi glacier catchment area near the Kedarnath temple late on Thursday evening. The avalanche did not cause any damage though the police and administration are alert. Experts also state that this is a normal occurrence in the Himalayan region. Former scientist of Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, PS Negi said that the Chorabadi glacier is located about five kilometres behind Kedarnath temple. At times, a portion of the glacier breaks due to gravity on a steep slope. He said that the avalanche on Thursday occurred in the accumulation zone of the glacier. Climate change and factors on the ground result in such activity, he added.
