Transport Dept to hold RTA meeting on Nov 1 after three years

The Transport department will finally conduct a regional transport authority (RTA) meeting of the Garhwal division after three years on November 1 to take decisions on various matters associated with local public transport. 

The regional transport officer (administration) of Dehradun and secretary of RTA Dinesh Chandra Pathoi informed the meeting which was also expected to be held last month is now scheduled to be conducted at the Garhwal commissioner camp office next month. He said the department will discuss several proposals and agendas regarding improving the facility of local public transport in remote as well as urban areas.

The authority will also take the decision on issuing new permits for buses, auto rickshaws and Vikrams on several routes in Dehradun and Haridwar. The proposal of increasing the number of private buses on the Dehradun-Selaqui route besides issuing new permits for buses to Maldevta from Raipur Road and Parade Ground will also be discussed in the meeting.

The Dehradun RTO is also planning to commence the operation of Tata Magic on several routes passing through the internal areas of the city to make the local transportation more accessible. The department is also considering increasing the operation of buses in the Kalsi area and from Parade Ground to the Shimla Bypass route too, informed Pathoi. The meeting has been deferred six times in the past three years due to certain reasons but the RTO said that it will definitely be conducted on the scheduled date next month.
