Even as suspense prevails over the return of the former minister Harak Singh Rawat back into Congress party’s fold, many leaders of Congress have opened a front against him. These leaders have clearly said that the party should not take him back.

Rawat who was unexpectedly dropped from the Pushkar Singh Dhami’s cabinet and expelled from BJP for six years was staking his claim from Lansdowne, Doiwala and Kedarnath assembly constituencies while in the saffron party and since he is now trying to enter Congress, the Congress leaders having interests in these constituencies have become cautious.

The Congress MLA from Kedarnath Manoj Rawat was the first to fire the salvo against Harak Singh. He told The Pioneer that the people like Harak Singh are murderers of democracy. He said that he has presented a model of mismanagement and corruption and time has come to teach a lesson to him. The Kedarnath MLA claimed that he is in possession of dozens of cases of irregularities in which the sacked minister was involved and would expose them at appropriate time. Terming fake Medical College in Kotdwar and scam in the construction labour welfare board as examples of irregularities, he said that the Congress should not take him in the party.

Former cabinet minister Hira Singh Bisht said that the party should not shelter defectors. He said that the people who were responsible for the infamous coup of 2016 against the then CM Harish Rawat should not be forgiven. Bisht who is staking claim for the party ticket from the Doiwala assembly constituency of Dehradun said that he is confident that the Congress party would not ignore the interests of the party workers.

Congress leader Raghuvir Singh Bisht who is frontrunner for Congress party’s ticket from Lansdwone assembly segment said that it would be improper if someone from outside with no work or presence in the area is given preference over the local leaders. He said that the character and actions of Harak Singh Rawat are misplaced in the concept of Uttarakhandiyat propagated by Harish Rawat. It is pertinent to mention here that Anukriti Gusain, the daughter in law of Harak Singh Rawat is planning to contest from Lansdowne assembly. She recently asserted that she would contest from Lansdowne assembly constituency on the symbol of either BJP or Congress.
