The work for the construction of the 150 bed capacity Critical Care Hospital (CCH) building at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh has started. The work of the CCH building will be done by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by the officers of AIIMS and the CPWD for the project.  A 960-bed hospital is currently operational in AIIMS Rishikesh and it has 200 ICU beds at present.  More than 2500 patients visit the different Out Patient Departments (OPD) of the hospital. In view of the increasing number of serious patients, the need to increase the number of beds here was being felt for a long time. The CCH building would be constructed near the trauma building of the institute. This Project has been approved under ‘Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission’. The new building will have seven floors including the ground floor.

The Executive Director of AIIMS Rishikesh, Dr Meenu Singh said the mini hospital will be a fully centralized AC facility and will have 12 emergency beds including day care beds, dialysis, isolation room, HDU, ICU, NICU, PICU, and operation theatre. She added that soon another 42 beds of the Paediatric unit will be constructed in the institute.
