MCD deploys additional vehicles for increased garbage generation ahead of Deepawali

Household cleaning work ahead of Deepawali has led the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to deploy 10-15 additional vehicles on a daily basis to collect garbage from all wards.
The chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna said that the corporation has started a campaign to maintain cleanliness across the city, especially in roadside areas. He said that there has also been a considerable increase in garbage generation on a daily basis for the past week across the city.

Most of the garbage generated through household cleaning is dry waste and its quantity has been fluctuating daily in a range between 25 to 30 metric tonnes so far. The daily garbage generation is generally between 300-400 metric tonnes, said the municipal officer. The MCD initially increased five garbage collecting vehicles but deployed 10 more when the garbage generation increased within a few days. He said that besides deploying 10-15 vehicles, the corporation is also using JCBs to clear roadside garbage and empty roadside bins due to the increased quantity of accumulated garbage in them.

Most of the additional garbage generation is from wards in urban areas. He said that the corporation will continue this drive during and after Deepawali too to ensure the additional garbage does not lead to disrupted sanitation facilities across the city.
