Negi directs CMO to probe case of doctor allegedly administering expired vaccine to baby

Taking cognisance of a complaint against a doctor who allegedly administered an expired vaccine to a baby, the chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Usha Negi has directed the chief medical officer (CMO) to investigate the matter. According to the complainant’s letter to the commission, he took his nephew for vaccination who is only about two years old on September 17 to the Khurbura centre of a private hospital where he was administered with an expired Rotavirus vaccine. According to the letter, the complainant came to know about the expiry date when he saw the vaccine slip in the vaccination card of the baby. When the complainant contacted the doctor, he said he will contact him after consulting a child specialist. However, the complainant took the child back to the doctor when the condition of the child got worse the next night but the doctor stated that the child got health issues due to the other two vaccines and not from the expired vaccine, as per the complainant. He also informed that he has complained about it in the Child Line too.

Moreover, Negi stated that vaccinating a child with an expired vaccine is a serious issue and the complainant has all the proofs against the doctor as per his claim. To get thorough information about the issue, Negi has instructed the CMO to investigate the matter and submit the report to the commission within 15 days.
