Need to correct image change caused by Joshimath situation: Ajay

Special representative of the chief minister and Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) chairman Ajendra Ajay has directed the officials to ensure that disaster affected people of Joshimath staying in relief camps should be provided all necessary assistance. Steps should also be taken to address the change in image of the State caused by the Joshimath situation. He said this while chairing a meeting to review the relief measures in the subsidence hit Joshimath on Monday.

Ajay said that the Char Dham Yatra and winter tourism are the backbone of the State. The atmosphere spread recently across the nation regarding Uttarakhand is affecting the economy of the local residents.  He stressed on the need to change the image of Uttarakhand caused by the Joshimath situation. He said, “The Central and State governments are providing all possible assistance of the affected people of Joshimath. The government will ensure model rehabilitation facility for the affected people in their interests,” said Ajay.

Chamoli district magistrate Himanshu Khurana said that 863 buildings with cracks due to subsidence had been marked in Joshimath so far. Stating that 925 members of 275 affected families have been shifted to safer locations, he said that food, drinking water, medical aid and other necessary facilities are being provided to the people in the relief camps. A total of 826 persons have undergone medical check ups in the relief camps so far, he said.

Considering the cold onditions, heater, warm clothing and woolen blankets are being provided to the affected persons in the relief camps. Bonfires are also being lit in 20 sites including public places, intersections and sites near the relief camps, said the district magistrate. Chief development officer Lalit Narayan Mishra, district disaster management officer NK Joshi and nodal officers were also present in the review meeting.
