The Panchayati Raj minister Satpal Maharaj instructed the officials to ensure timely expenditure of the funds allotted under the 15th Finance Commission. The minister issued this instruction during a review meeting held here on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Maharaj said that a proposal for restructuring the departmental structure has already been submitted to the government. Currently, the government is undertaking necessary actions in this regard. He also emphasised that conducting a video conference meeting should be held with the district magistrates in case any challenges arise during the collection of Panchayat Development Index (PDI) data.

He also said that credit cards should be facilitated for the employees of the Panchayati Raj department. Maharaj further informed the officials about the intention to increase the amount allocated for Panchayat building construction from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, through funding from the Central government. The meeting also entailed discussion regarding the transfer of 29 subjects to Panchayats.

Further, Maharaj stated that the department has successfully trained approximately 40,000 public representatives through the National Gram Swaraj Abhiyan. A total of 450 public representatives have been given exposure visits to Panchayats in other States, resulting in exceptional work being accomplished. Soon, similar exposure visits will be organised for other representatives to bring the positive practices from other States to their respective Panchayats, the minister added.
