To provide quick, affordable and accessible justice to the common people, a National Lok Adalat will be held in Uttarkashi district under the auspices of the District Legal Services Authority, Uttarkashi, on March 14. It will be held simultaneously at District Court, Uttarkashi; Civil Judge Court, Purola and Civil Judge Court, Barkot.

Through the National Lok Adalat, cases pending in courts for years will be resolved expeditiously, based on mutual consent and agreement. The hallmark of Lok Adalat is that it resolves cases amicably, saving both time and money for the parties. Furthermore, court fees are refunded for cases resolved through the Lok Adalat, providing additional relief to ordinary citizens.

The secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Sachin Kumar stated that various types of cases are included in the Lok Adalat. These include criminal compoundable cases, check bounce cases under Section 138 of the NI Act, matrimonial and family court disputes, labour-related cases, motor accident compensation cases, bank recovery cases, disputes related to electricity and water bills (excluding non-compoundable cases), rent disputes, injunctions, easements and specific relief among other civil and revenue cases.

In addition, Lok Adalat also covers pre-litigation cases. These cases involve disputes that have not yet been filed in court but are resolvable through mutual agreement. These cases specifically include check bounce, bank recovery, labour disputes, maintenance matters, electricity and water disputes, and other compoundable criminal and civil cases. This system will provide citizens with the opportunity to seek resolution of their disputes before filing a case in court.
