National ski & ski mountaineering championships starts in Auli

The two-day national ski and ski mountaineering championship being organised by the Winter Games Association of Uttarakhand began at Auli near Joshimath on Saturday. The armed forces jawans topped various events in the competitions held on the first day. Mavi Asha of ITBP came first in the snowboarding women’s category, followed by Prakriti from Himachal Pradesh and Tarang from ITBP in the second and third positions respectively. Kulvinder won the first position followed by Vivek Rana and Ranjit- all from the army- in the second and third positions respectively in the men’s category. In the women’s category of alpine giant slalom Mahak Kawan from Uttarakhand, Suhani Thakur from Himachal Pradesh and Sunit Bhatt from Uttarakhand came first, second and third respectively. In the men’s category, Bakeer Hussain from Army (Green) won the first position followed by Aul Mandiya (Red) and Devendra Gurung (Red) in the second and third positions respectively. Office bearers of the Winter Games Association of Uttarakhand were also among those present on the occasion.

It is pertinent to mention here that snowfall experienced in the recent past in high altitude areas including Auli in Chamoli district have enabled the hosting of events like the snow sports competition which started on Saturday.
