The Nanda-Sunanda project has revived the education of 28 underprivileged girls in Dehradun district so far, using more than Rs 10 lakh in financial support. The project aims to empower underprivileged girls through education who failed to complete their education due to certain circumstances, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said.
He informed that the project supported nine more girls on Monday. “One of them, Prachi, secured admission to a reputed institute for the course of Master in Computer Applications (MCA). Due to financial constraints, she could not afford transport, so the administration deposited Rs 25,000 to cover vehicle expenses. The administration wanted to support her in becoming a computer engineer,” he said.
The DM distributed cheques worth Rs 3.08 lakh to nine girls. This included Khushi Kaur from Class IV who received Rs 13,425, Zainab from Class V who received Rs 7,900 and Prachi received Rs 25,000 cheque for transport support. Bansal encouraged the girls to pursue their goals with determination and cited examples of women officers to inspire them. He emphasised that the Nanda-Sunanda project offers a foundation to help girls who had to drop out due to family conditions.
The administration plans to help them return to school and secure a stable future. Bansal said the district administration will continue to support the girls’ education and asked them to keep their motivation alive. He shared that the education of girls contributes to building a stronger society. Calling this project as a long-term initiative, he said that the effort will continue beyond individuals involved in it. He addressed the beneficiaries stating that education is the most powerful tool and they should work hard toward their goals.
