Nainital Winter Carnival starts in Lake City

Cultural performances, boat display enthrall public

The three-day Nainital Winter Carnival got off to a colorful start here on Thursday. Various cultural performances and displays were held on the occasion in the lake city. While a carnival march comprising various cultural presentations was taken out on the Mall Road, display of boats was held on the Naini lake. The carnival march started in the afternoon with various cultural troupes, musicians, school children, army band and organizations displaying various performances. MLAs Sanjiv Arya, Banshidhar Bhagat, district Panchayat head Sumitra Prasad, Haldwani mayor Jogendra Rautela and Nainital district magistrate Vinod Kumar Suman were present along with a large number of locals and tourists at the start of the carnival march. Starting from the Mall Road, the participants in the procession displayed various folk dances and acts near the tourism office. Performances by folk dancers, army band from Ranikhet and children from 17 local schools among others enthralled the public on the occasion. Various government departments also presented informational items. The performances continued for about three hours on the Mall Road. The display of boats on Naini lake was also among the special attractions on the first day of the winter carnival. A cultural programme was also held in the evening.
