In a meeting with officials of the State Industrial Development Authority (SIDA) and State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIIDCUL), the Industry secretary Sachin Kurve had directed that self-verification be facilitated for applicants seeking permission from SIDA and SIIDCUL for building construction. This step has been taken to make the process of building map approval easier in the industrial sector. Following Kurve’s directions, the SIDA chief executive officer and SIIDCUL managing director Savin Bansal issued directions for implementing the provision for self-verification.

According to officials, the self-verification will be conducted jointly by the applicant, architect and structural engineer. They will also submit an undertaking to the effect that the building will be constructed only in accordance with the buiding bylaws which will not be violated even during the construction of the building. If the applicant presents any fact wrongly in the description, document or map or if the building bylaws are violated during the construction, strict action will be taken against the applicant and the architect.

On the basis of the self-verified building map submitted by the applicant, the SIDA will provide the self-verified map certificate. The applicant will be able to begin construction of the building on the basis of this certificate. The applicant will have to undertake the building construction within two years. The officials state that there are two direct advantages of self-verification of building maps for approval. Whereas earlier, it used to take about 15 days to secure approval for building map, now the applicant will be able to start the construction directly after getting the self-verification certificate.

The applicant will not have to make frequent visits to the authorities. Apart from this, Kurve has also directed that in the case of the maps in which objections have been raised earlier, necessary steps should be taken in June to resolve such cases. Expediting the procedure for approval to building maps amidst the Covid pandemic will boost industrial development while also enhancing employment and industrial production in the state, he said.
