A special event was organised by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Uttarakhand regional office on Tuesday to commemorate International Women’s Day. The programme was chaired over by the bank’s chief general manager Vinod Kumar Bist with former secretary (government of India) Vibha Puri Das as the chief guest. An exhibition of self-help group products was also organised on the occasion. Das also inaugurated a mobile rural mart for marketing the farmer producer organisation’s product. A number of women from various parts of the State were felicitated for empowering women and motivating them towards economic work from domestic work.

Das said that behind the progress of women was a journey which was full of struggles and difficulties. Looking at the contribution of women only as economic data does not reveal the true contribution of women. She added that the other works for which they are not paid will also have to be given due respect. Women should neither tolerate their problems silently nor give up. They should have their own views on every problem so that no one else has to bear what they suffered, added Das.Bist, highlighted the theme of the year 2023 ‘Digit All’ stating that giving equal rights and opportunities to women in the digital age is not only the need of the hour but is also necessary for the advancement of women. NABARD is helping women transform from housewives to entrepreneurs by creating employment opportunities for them through projects like FPOs, financial literacy, self-help groups, JLGs and others, he added.
