Murder convict from Haryana arrested after encounter

In latest news from Uttarakhand, a murder convict from Haryana sentenced to life-term who had jumped parole was arrested in Bahadarabad in Haridwar district following an encounter with police. The convict was identified as Vinod alias Vicky Rajput (40), resident of Rohtak, Haryana, who had been currently living at Daulatpur in Haridwar.

Police said that while they were on a checking drive in Bahadarabad, they noticed two men coming towards them. On seeing the police team, one of them whipped out a pistol and fired shots. Police then resorted to retaliatory firing. While one of them was injured the other fled. During interrogation, the injured admitted to having jumped parole in September, 2023, while undergoing the life-sentence.  Then, hiding his identity, he kept moving from place to place and started living in Daulatpur a few days ago.  He further told the police team that he had opened fire, thinking that they had come to arrest him.
