Move HC to seek death penalty for Ankita’s killers, says Congress to Govt

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
The Congress has demanded that a plea should be filed in the Uttarakhand High Court seeking the death penalty for the culprits in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.
Welcoming the judgement of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kotdwar, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the decision is an important step in the direction of justice and provides partial justice to Ankita. He said that there are many serious questions which are still unanswered and the Pushkar Singh Dhami government should answer them. Mahara said that it is also not clear as to who was the ‘VIP’ involved and who made efforts to save him. The PCC president said that people should know the name of the person who ordered demolition of Vanantra resort which resulted in destruction of the evidence.
The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana said that the State government should ask the prosecution to knock the door of the HC for death penalty to the culprits.
He said that all the people of the State were agitated by the gruesome murder of Ankita Bhandari and everyone wants that the culprits should be hanged. Dhasmana said that it is unfortunate that the name of the ‘VIP’, the mention of which Ankita has made in her chat with her friend, could not be figured by the investigation team.
He said that since the accused in the case were directly linked with the ruling party a pressure was created on the prosecution to save them but their efforts failed and the court has pronounced its judgement.
