PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
To promote sustainable tourism and enhance pilgrimage connectivity, the Government of Uttarakhand has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Swiss ropeway manufacturer, Bartholet Maschinenbau AG for the development of a ropeway from Tapovan (Rishikesh) to Kunjapuri temple (Narendranagar).
As per the Tourism department, this ropeway project will boost Uttarakhand’s infrastructure and tourism. With Kunjapuri temple being a major spiritual and tourist destination, the ropeway will provide seamless, eco-friendly access from Rishikesh, thereby reducing travel time, enhancing visitor safety and minimising environmental impact.
The MoU with Bartholet had been finalised after rigorous evaluation by a high-level committee. Bartholet will be responsible for preparing the detailed project report (DPR) at its own cost, based on comprehensive techno-economic assessments, thus ensuring world-class standards in design and implementation, the Tourism officials stated.
