Mothers of newly born sons to receive benefits of MMKY too: Rekha Arya

The Women Empowerment & Child Development (WECD) department minister, Rekha Arya has stated that the mothers of newly born sons will also receive the benefits of Mukhyamantri Mahalakshmi Kit Yojana (MMKY) which are currently being provided on the birth of the first two daughters. The minister stated this during a review meeting of the works of the department on Friday. She said that under this scheme, women are given kits worth Rs 3,500 on the birth of the first two daughters which include things like dry fruits, items of clothing, soaps, bed sheets among other necessary items that can be used by new mothers and daughters.

Now the government is also planning to provide these benefits on the birth of the first son too.  She has directed the officials concerned to prepare a proposal for this project while adding that it will be implemented soon after the cabinet gives its approval for it. She also directed the officials to work efficiently to provide all the facilities to the beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana (MVY).

She said that 4,057 children are currently getting benefits under MVY who lost their parents or guardians to Covid-19 disease or any other diseases in the last two years and the officials must ensure they are getting all the benefits regularly. She also asked the officials to work on empowering women of Nari Niketan and ensure they do not have any issue during their stay there. She said that in order to ensure sanitary napkins are available to every girl and women in the state, Anganwadi  workers will be given  Rs one as an incentive for each napkin.

She also asked the officials to make sure that pregnant women and children up to six years of age under Poshan Abhiyan receive quality edible products like eggs and bananas through Anganwadi centres.
