Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Kishore Upadhyaya has demanded that the state government should make a law to ensure that no one be made homeless in the name of anti encroachment drive in Uttarakhand.

He said that the state cabinet in its meeting on August 16 has decided not to remove the slums for next three years but the declaration is not enough. Upadhyaya said that the state government was planning to destroy the slums after an order by the Uttarakhand High Court (HC) in the year 2018 but brought an ordinance to protect slums for three years under public pressure.

Upadhyaya said that the state government should also set up a transparent system for rehabilitation of the people being shifted due to development project or threat of disaster.
