More than 63K candidates file nomination papers in Panchayat election

More than 63,000 persons have filed their nomination papers in the three-tier Panchayat elections being held in all districts of the State except Haridwar. According to information provided by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday, 31,622 nomination papers were filed on Saturday, the last day of filing nomination. A total of 63,812 nomination papers were filed for a total of 66,418 posts in the three-tier Panchayati Raj system.

According to the figures provided by the SEC, 1,907 nomination papers were filed for 358 posts of district Panchayat member, 11,629 nomination papers were filed for 2,974 posts of block Panchayat members, 22,028 nomination papers were filed for 7,499 posts of Gram Pradhans and 28,248 nomination papers were filed for 55,587 posts of Gram Panchayat members. Since the Panchayat election is being held in two phases, voting for the first phase will be on July 24 and on July 28 for the second phase.

With the filing of nomination papers concluding on Saturday, the scrutiny of the documents will be concluded by July 9. The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on July 10 and 11 while the symbols will be allotted on July 14 and July 18 for the first and second phases respectively. The voting for the first and second phase will be held from 8 AM to 5 PM on July 24 and 28 respectively. The counting of the votes will commence at 8 AM on July 31 for both the phases and the process will continue till the official declaration of the results.
