More research needed in conserving water resources: Dobhal
A workshop on Mountain geo-hydrology ground water organised by Doon University.
The Director General (DG) of Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) Rajendra Dobhal has said that use of technology should be made for identification and conservation of water sources. He was addressing a one day workshop on Mountain geo-hydrology organised at Doon University on Saturday. The workshop was held under the aegis of Dr Nityanand Himalayan Research and Study Centre of Doon University. Emphasising on conservation and re charge of water sources, he said that more research is needed on the subject. The Vice Chancellor of the Sridev Suman Uttarakhand University P P Dhyani said that a special policy is needed for development of mountainous areas of the state. He said that many countries of the world are facing acute scarcity of water so it is advisable that water sources are conserved in time. Presiding over the workshop the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Doon university A K Karnatak said that nature has bestowed the human being with many important gifts and we should use these resources judiciously by adopting a model of sustainable development. He elaborated on various types of water conservation and appealed to the research fellows to develop such species in the agriculture and horticulture sector which can grow by less intake of water. The Professor emeritus of Himalayan research and study centre D D Chauniyal coordinated the programme. The dean student welfare H C Purohit delivered a vote of thanks.
Professor J S Rawat of Kumaon university, Professor H C Nainwal of Garhwal University also addressed the workshop.
