‘Mona Lisa’ shoots for maiden film in Doon’s locations

Moni Bhosle, popularly known as Mona Lisa, who captured nationwide attention after going viral during the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, has taken her first step into mainstream cinema with a Hindi film now being filmed in Dehradun.

Hailing from Khargone district in Madhya Pradesh, she is making her debut in ‘The Diary of Manipur’, a Hindi film that explores social issues. The shooting began in Dehradun on January 2 and is currently underway at various locations including Rajpur Road, Vikasnagar and Mussoorie. Crowds gathered at shooting sites in Dehradun, drawn by curiosity around her transition from internet fame to the big screen.

Speaking about her journey, she said that she could not complete her education due to the absence of a school in her village. She said her experience has motivated her to work toward opening a school in her village so that other children do not face similar challenges. Producer-director Sanoj Mishra said that Uttarakhand has emerged as a preferred choice for filmmakers because of its scenic locations and supportive environment. He said the State offers logistical ease along with visual diversity, making it suitable for socially driven narratives such as ‘The Diary of Manipur’.

Actor Abhishek Tripathi plays the lead in the movie while Amit Rao and local artist Vishnu Dubey are also part of the cast. In recent years, Uttarakhand has witnessed a rise in film and web series projects, contributing to employment and culture visibility.
