Terming the behaviour of Congress MLAs towards the speaker Ritu Khanduri the Assembly an insult to all women of the State, the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to stage State-wide protests on the issue. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that the party’s Mahila Morcha workers will stage demonstrations in all districts to expose the “anti-woman” face of the Congress and seek a public apology from the MLAs responsible.
Bhatt alleged that the Congress has a tradition of insulting women since the creation of Uttarakhand, adding that it is unable to digest the glorious role of women. “This is the reason why its members not only shredded constitutional traditions in the house but also intentionally insulted the lady speaker which amounts to insulting the 60 lakh women of Uttarakhand. While the BJP is facilitating 30 per cent horizontal reservation for women in government jobs to increase their socio-economic participation, the Congress on the other hand is unable to accept women moving forward and taking on important responsibilities. Such behaviour may be acceptable to the Congress leadership but the BJP will never accept it. On Thursday, the Mahila Morcha State president Asha Nautiyal will lead State-wide protests on this issue,” said Bhatt.
