PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Terming Uttarakhand Minority Education bill passed by the Vidhan Sabha during the monsoon session as violation of section 25 and 26 of the constitution, the vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana has said the Pushkar Singh Dhami government has enacted the new law to further its agenda of polarisation.

Interacting with the media persons at Congress Bhawan on Wednesday, Dhasmana said that the new law has nothing to do with the educational reforms or improving quality of education. He said that all the educational institutes of the minorities are functioning after registration and after getting no objection certificate from the Education department in the State. However these institutes are free to get affiliated with the board of their choice. “Many schools of Sikh and Christian missionaries have affiliation with the CBSE board while many are associated with the International Boards. In such a situation, how can the State government force any institution to get affiliation from the Uttarakhand board?’’ he questioned.

He claimed that the new law will get rejected in the court.  Dhasmana said that the only intent of the governed is to target the Madarsa of the minorities so that it can engage in the politics of polarisation.

He said that article 25 of constitution gives an individual freedom to practice religion of his choice while article 26 grants autonomy to the religious groups for management of their religious institutes. He said that the new law is an infringement of these two articles and the State government should immediately repeal it.
