The growers of aromatic plants from Bhimtal joined the virtual gathering in the Bhimtal Vikas Bhawan auditorium chaired by the block chief Harish Singh Bisht. Notably, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the Uttarakhand Mahak Kranti policy-2026-36 at the Centre for Aromatic Plants (CAP), Selaqui in Dehradun on Saturday.

In his address, Bisht stated that the mountains here hold immense potential for agriculture and horticulture. “Farmers can double their income through cultivating aromatic plants. Medicinal plants are also found in the mountain forests in abundance. Along with agricultural and horticultural production, we need to pay special attention to marketing our crops,” he said. With most villages in Bhimtal being dependant on agriculture and horticulture, the State government’s agricultural and horticultural welfare schemes have not only halted migration to some extent but have led to reverse migration, he noted. He further said that aromatic farming is free from wildlife attacks. “People are abandoning farming due to wildlife attacks. But this one is safe,” he said.

During the event, a scientist at the Centre of Aromatic Plants (CAP), Lalit Agarwal provided detailed information to farmers about aromatic cultivation.

The district development officer, Gopal Giri, who was present at the event, urged farmers to promote cinnamon cultivation in Nainital by taking advantage of the benefits offered under the State’s government’s policy.
