Meerut-based couple elicit focus on rising population

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Meerut-based couple Dinesh and Disha Talwar, conducted their campaign on population control in Dehradun on Saturday. They urged everyone present to consider the issues surrounding the increasing population.

Dinesh expressed concern stating that the government is currently making no efforts towards population control. He stated, “We are all taking steps together and we hope that the government will awaken to the necessity of enacting a population control law in the future.” His wife added that for the past 32 years, they have been advocating for population control in various cities and have sent a considerable number of letters to the Prime Minister’s office. They remain undeterred by the lack of response, although they expressed regret that no PM has granted them the opportunity to meet and discuss why a population control law is essential.

The Talwar couple further highlighted  that India’s population is projected to reach around 1.5 billion, yet the government machinery remains silent and the citizens of the country do not raise their voices on this pressing issue. They pointed out, “Everyone is concerned about electricity, water and clean air, but few acknowledge that these problems are exacerbated by population growth. Will we only open our eyes when the population reaches 2 billion?”

The Talwars also shared that over the past 30 years, they have conducted Padyatras in more than 300 cities, trying to motivate the common people to advocate for population control. They have organised approximately 100 awareness programmes at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and have presented memorandums to the PM and leaders of major opposition parties each time. They emphasised that a two-child policy is necessary in national interest, adding that they have written thousands of postcards to the PM regarding the need for controlling population growth.
