MCH to install dustbins every 50 metres on Ghats to ensure cleanliness

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

In a proactive move to improve sanitation and waste management near Ganga ghats, the Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) will now place dustbins every 50 metres along the ghats.

This direction was given by Haridwar municipal commissioner Nandan Kumar during his inspection of key ghat areas on Wednesday. During the inspection, the commissioner found waterlogging at certain locations. He immediately instructed officials concerned to ensure prompt drainage of accumulated water from these sites. Emphasising the need for a cleaner environment, especially in view of the heavy footfall expected during the Kanwad Yatra, Kumar directed sanitation teams to intensify their efforts to collect waste from the ghats in a timely manner.

In order to maintain effective cleanliness, he also ordered the installation of garbage bins at intervals of 50 metres across all major ghats. This is aimed at discouraging littering and facilitating easy collection of waste by the municipal teams. The commissioner noted that placing dustbins at regular intervals will not only assist in keeping the riverbanks clean but also support better waste segregation and disposal during the pilgrimage season. The officials said that the commissioner’s visit was part of a broader strategy to strengthen on-ground preparedness and address infrastructural concerns ahead of the monsoon and Kanwad Yatra.
