The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) has prepared a special waste management plan to tackle the challenge of cleanliness during the final phase of the Kanwad Yatra. A 10-hour long cleanliness drive will be conducted from 8 PM on Wednesday to 6 AM on Thursday.
The objective is to make all major ghats and Kanwad Yatra routes completely clean before the final departure of the remaining devotees. This initiative will be carried out overnight to avoid disruption to public movement and to allow for uninterrupted cleaning operations, the Haridwar additional municipal commissioner Deepak Goswami said. He informed that with the arrival of over four crore pilgrims, Kanwad Mela 2025 has witnessed a large influx of devotees and the number continues to increase. In response to the rising pressure on sanitation infrastructure, the corporation has deployed four nodal officers to oversee the operations, supported by assistant nodal officers in different zones.
Each officer has been assigned responsibility for a specific area to ensure uninterrupted cleaning operations. Goswami stated that the drive will cover key locations including Malviya Ghat, Kankhal Ghat, Shiv Ghat, Alaknanda Ghat, Subhash Ghat, Nai Ghat, Hathi Pul, Birla Ghat, Keshav Ashram to CCR Chowk, Upper Road from Kotwali to Bhimgoda Barrier, Moti Bazaar and the vegetable market area. He informed that all collected solid waste will be disposed of scientifically using environmentally responsible methods. The implementation of this multi-layered plan of the corporation will help conclude the Kanwad Yatra in a clean and well-managed environment, he added.
