Shopkeepers not to sell products to maskless customers

Considering the careless attitude of several people in marketplaces in Dehradun who wander around without using face masks and maintaining physical distancing, the shopkeepers of Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) have decided not to sell products to such people. Moreover, in order to spread awareness among the people about Covid-19 contagion and to encourage them to always use face masks, sanitiser and maintain physical distance in public places, the members of the association will also paste posters in the shops of the market. According to the president of DVMUVM, Pankaj Masson, every person is vulnerable to this disease now which makes it more important for everyone to observe precautionary measures not just for our own safety but for others too. “We recently had a meeting with sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Gopal Ram Binwal and some other officials of the district administration. We discussed taking steps to minimise the risk of contagion in marketplaces. We have decided not to sell anything to those who shop without masks. This rule was followed by some shopkeepers earlier too but in order to avoid offending customers, many did not follow it strictly. But now we have instructed every shopkeeper to decline such customers so that customers would not leave the shops in the hope that they will get the same product from other shopkeepers without any hassle,” said Masson. He added that the association will also paste posters in shops to constantly remind people how important it is to follow Covid-19 safety protocols in the current pandemic. “We have initially ordered to print 10,000 posters which will be available in the next two to three days. Besides, we have also requested the police to play the audio message of Covid-19 from loudspeakers installed in the marketplaces to remind people to follow the rules.  Sometimes people tend to forget about masks and physical distancing in public places but the audio message will constantly remind them to do the needful. Hopefully, the police will consider it in the next few days,” informed Masson.
