MCH gears up for Swachchh Survekshan 2022

The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) has started working on various cleanliness factors to attain a good position in Swachchh Survekshan 2022 (SS22) as it performed poorly in the last cleanliness survey. Last year, Haridwar slipped to 285th position from 244th in 2020 making it among the worst performing cities in the survey.

The municipal commissioner of Haridwar Dayanand Saraswati said that the corporation is working on every factor associated with cleanliness to improve the ranking this year. He said that the corporation has started door to door services across the city and is diligently working on garbage segregation at the source for its proper disposal. The locals are also being encouraged to adopt composting to dispose of domestic waste.  “The garbage disposal is also being carried out properly in the waste management plant of the city. The corporation sends the plastic waste generated in the city to a company for recycling and 100 per cent of the refuse derived fuel (RDF) generated in the plant is also being disposed of appropriately. The sanitation teams of MCH are also working on reducing the accumulation of garbage at roadside areas and anti-plastic campaigns are conducted regularly to restrict the usage of single-use plastic,” stated the commissioner. He said that the corporation is working on making the city garbage-free and leaving no stone unturned to achieve the target. On being asked about the preparation for the Citizen’s Feedback subcategory of SS22 under which, the centre has started collecting the feedback of locals from January 1, Saraswati said that the corporation has publicised SS22 through various platforms and campaigns including social media in order to reach maximum locals to promote their participation in this cleanliness survey. He said that the corporation has appointed a separate team that is fully dedicated to the works done under SS22.

He also added that the city has sufficient public toilets, currently over 190, and there is no need to build new toilets for the sake of the survey.

He said, “The corporation has not set any specific target to attain the specific position in SS22 but it will certainly be way better than last year.” He also added that the participation of local citizens is quite crucial for the city to attain a good position and appealed to the locals to maintain cleanliness and participate in the citizens’ feedback.
