The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) undertook an anti-encroachment drive in the Bhupatwala area of the city where it demolished a number of illegal constructions on Friday. A number of dhabas and shops built illegally on the corporation’s land were demolished by the MCH team during the drive. The drive was conducted under the assistant municipal commissioners Shyam Sundar and Mahendra Yadav. In the presence of police personnel, the corporation team removed encroachments erected along the national highway. The officials informed that the encroachers had earlier been issued a warning and had been told to voluntarily remove the encroachments by October 10. The demolitions were conducted as the encroachers did not act on the warning, they said. Haridwar municipal commissioner Nanda Kumar said that encroachments will not be tolerated on the lands of the MCD. Similar action against such encroachments will also be taken in the future, he added.
