The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is considering giving the responsibility of managing sanitation facilities of 10 wards each to Messrs Sunlight and Messrs Bhargava Companies which are currently being managed by Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL).  According to the officials, REEL has agreed to carry out a swift transition of its duties till MCD makes proper arrangements to manage the sanitation facilities.

It is currently managing door-to-door collection in 69 wards and operation of Sheeshambada solid waste management and recycling plant. The officials stated that the bigger challenge for MCD is to make the arrangements to run the plant in comparison to managing the door-to-door service. Considering this, they have decided to gradually distribute some wards between the companies who are already managing about 30 wards in the city. The officials said that they have already floated tenders to appoint a new company which will open on September 13.

According to them, they are certain that MCD would have selected a company to run the plant and carry out other necessary duties by the end of September. Besides this, the officials said that the distribution of wards will also reduce the work responsibility of REEL and will allow it to work better on the remaining 49 wards.
