Wednesday, 23 February 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has said that amendment in the constitution should be done to ensure that the assembly seats in mountainous areas are not reduced in the delimitation. Talking to the media persons at the Congress office here on Tuesday, Godiyal said that the delimitation is done as per the provisions of the constitution and it should not be questioned but many times the constitution is amended from time to time and as per the needs. He said that the representation from the mountainous areas should not get reduced and for it amendment in the constitution should be done.

Taking a dig at the decision of the state unit of BJP to send a team of 70 leaders from Uttarakhand to campaign for the BJP candidates in Uttar Pradesh (UP) elections, Godiyal said that it appears that people of UP have no faith in the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He said that the people who are sent to UP have failed in Uttarakhand and they will have no effect on the electorate of UP.

On the question of the fear raised by the Congress party that the EVM can be tampered, the PCC president said that the track record of BJP, the Congress is alert and has asked all the district presidents and candidates to keep an eye on the counting centres from outside.  Godiyal informed that senior leaders and office bearers of the party would meet in Dehradun on Wednesday and in the meeting the performance of the party in the assembly elections would be discussed.
