Mandi Samiti to start flower trade from next month

The Dehradun Mandi Samiti is likely to commence floral business in Niranjanpur Mandi from December once they get the approval from their head office in Rudrapur.

The president of Mandi Samiti, Rajesh Sharma stated this while adding that the annual turnover of flowers in Uttarakhand is about Rs 200 crore but there is no specific place or Mandi in the whole state where one can sell or buy flowers. “Most of the flowers produced here are sent to Delhi by the farmers due to the lack of platforms to sell them here and to fulfil the demand in the State, the retail sellers here have to buy flowers from the agencies of Delhi. It costs extra to farmers as well as to the retailers and the local customers,” said Sharma. Therefore, the Mandi Samiti has planned to provide a platform to those interested in flowers business, said Sharma.

A proposal was sent to the head in-charge in Rudrapur a few weeks back and after its approval; Samiti will commence the flower business in Niranjanpur Mandi, stated Sharma. “We also have plans to set up some small vegetables and fruits wholesale market in other parts of Dehradun where the flower business can be done too. However, we will start this business in Niranjanpur Mandi first and then the further planning will depend on the response to the business,” informed Sharma. He also informed that the said proposal for flowers business will probably get approval by the end of this month after which the Samiti can start working on the plan of flowers business.
