A woman was allegedly strangled to death on Tuesday by her partner for purportedly pressurising him for marriage. The accused has been taken into custody by the police. The woman’s brother has filed a police complaint against the accused in this case which took place at Nehru Colony in the SIIDCUL area.

On Tuesday afternoon, a resident of the colony informed the police that a young woman was lying dead in the room of a youth living on rent here. On receiving the information, superintendent of police (city) Swatantra Kumar Singh and other police officers reached the spot. In the preliminary investigation of the police, the deceased was identified as Sarita Singh. The landlord told the police that the deceased was having an affair with the youth living on rent and that she used to visit the room daily.  In the morning, when her scooter was found parked outside the house, he looked inside the room on suspicion and spotted her body lying inside. While the police started searching for the youth, he himself reached the spot and identified himself as Amit, a native of Meerut. During questioning, he said that he was in a relationship with the woman for about seven months. He averred that she was pressurising him for marriage but he was not willing. Even when she reached the room on Tuesday morning, there was an argument between them regarding marriage.  In anger, he strangled her with a dupatta.  On being informed by the police, the relatives of the deceased also reached the spot.  SP (city) Swatantra Kumar Singh said that a case of murder has been registered against the accused.  The cloth used in the murder along with the scooter, bag and lunch box of the deceased have also been recovered.
