Man dies, another injured after vehicle falls down gorge

A pickup vehicle fell into a 220-metre deep gorge near Judo Dam in Vikasnagar area of Dehradun district on Tuesday in which one person died and another sustained injuries. The officials stated that the Dakpatthar police got the call in the afternoon that a vehicle had fallen down the road into a gorge after which they reached the spot and also informed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Following the alert, a rescue team led by sub-inspector Suresh Tomar left from the SDRF Dakpatthar post for the site. The rescue team reached the location and found that the pickup (UK07 CA 1049) had fallen into the gorge with two people onboard. The SDRF team carried out the operation using necessary equipment in the difficult terrain. During the rescue, the team brought out the injured man, Hukum and sent him to the hospital by ambulance. The team also recovered the body of Rashid Ali, a resident of Vikasnagar and handed it over to the district police for further procedure. The officials said that police are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident and the investigation is ongoing.
