Mamgain honoured with Natya Samrat Award

Noted theatre artist and founder of Meghdoot Natya Sanstha, SP Mamgain was recently honoured with the Natya Samrat award for his significant contributions to theatre direction, writing and acting over the past six decades. The award was presented during the closing ceremony of the Ram Katha event held at Geeta Bhawan, where Maithilisharan, a disciple of the famous Ram Katha expert Ramkinkar delivered a discourse.

Mamgain received this honour from Maithilisharan, who praised his extensive involvement in the theatre. The president of Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha, Rakesh Oberoi, highlighted Mamgain’s remarkable dedication and contribution to theatre, noting that he has been an accomplished director of folk entertainment and a top-notch artist. Through Meghdoot Natya Sanstha, Mamgain has trained hundreds of young individuals in theatre, helping them achieve great success.

To honour this unparalleled contribution, Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha takes pride in presenting the title of Natya Samrat to Mamgain. Oberoi wished him a long life and anticipated further contributions from him. It is noteworthy that Meghdoot Natya Sanstha has previously staged six productions of three plays with religious and historical themes at the auditorium in the Geeta Bhavan complex, which received high praise from the audience. Recently, they also presented the immortal love story of Uttarakhand, “Amar Tiloga,” at Town Hall.

Mamgain is one of the few individuals in Uttarakhand’s theatre scene who has regarded theatre as a mission, actively engaging the new generation and elevating their skills in acting.
