Major initiatives to alleviate problems faced by women: CM

To alleviate the problems faced by women and empower them the State government will implement the Mukhyamantri Ghasyari Yojana. On the lines of fair price shops, cheap fodder for cattle will be made available in the villages through 7,771 centres under this scheme. Further, interest free loan of upto Rs five lakh will be provided soon to 20,000 women groups in the State. Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said this while speaking at a function in Uttarakhand Open University here on Friday. The CM inaugurated and unveiled the foundation stone for various works amounting to about Rs 26.18 crore on the occasion. Rawat also announced that land would be provided for the open university campus in Dehradun.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM appreciated the importance of distance learning. All universities should enhance their skills and give suggestions to the government so that ground level schemes are drafted and swift positive development is achieved in the state. He said that Uttarakhand is the first state where women have been accorded the right to paternal property by the government. This right will prove to be very important in making women self reliant and enabling their progress while also bringing about a revolutionary and positive change in society. He further said that efforts for revival of rivers and other water sources are being undertaken on a large scale in the state. Stating that large scale tree plantation will be undertaken on the occasion of Harela on July 16, he appealed to the public to participate in this effort.

In his address, the state minister for higher education, Dhan Singh Rawat said that about 90,000 persons are learning from the open university at present with 55 per cent of them being women. Stating that 1,000 professors had been appointed in one year by the government, he said that soon about four lakh students will be linked with WiFi.

Presiding over the function, local MLA Navin Dumka thanked the CM for granting approval to various development works in the Lalkuan constituency. Speaking on the occasion, the university vice chancellor OPS Negi, put forward various demands related to the development of the university in front of the chief minister.
