Maharaj inaugurates developments worth Rs 15.81 crore at Devidhura

Ropeways are being built at various locations to boost tourism. One of these locations is from Thuligaad to Purnagiri where a ropeway is being built in the public private partnership mode. The State’s Tourism, Culture and Irrigation minister, Satpal Maharaj said this after inaugurating tourism facilities costing Rs 15.81 crore under the central funded Swadesh Darshan heritage circuit at a gathering in the Barahi temple complex at Devidhura in Champawat on Sunday.

Speaking about ropeways being built in the state, Maharaj said that one of the five longest ropeways in the world is being built between Dehradun and Mussoorie at a cost of Rs 300 crore. Further, ropeways are also proposed at Nainital, Deeva Ka Danda and various other places. The minister said that the tourism department is identifying locations of historical value and including them in circuits to boost tourism and pilgrimage. He said that development works amounting to Rs 68.90 crore had been done under the Swadesh Darshan scheme. These include building of an interpretation centre, landscaping and site amenities at Katarmal temple in Almora, parking in Jageshwar, Daneshwar eco log huts, construction of eco log huts, parking and Ghat development at Baijnath in Bageshwar, and Barahi Yoddha building, rural sports centre and site development in Devidhura.

The minister further informed that the Irrigation department is building reservoirs in various districts for water culture and conservation. Considering scope for tourism and pisciculture along with water culture, such reservoirs are being built in the rural areas of Ranikhet, Pithoragarh, Lohaghat, Dehradun and Pauri, he said. The minister also announced assistance of Rs one lakh from his Manav Utthan Sewa Samiti to Hema Joshi for her husband suffering from a kidney ailment.

Lohaghat MLA Puran Fartyal, KMVN chairman Kedar Dutt Joshi and others were also present on the occasion.
