In latest news from Dehradun, the State tourism minister Satpal Maharaj flagged off the mountaineering expedition to Mt. Bandarpunch (6316 m) and Mt. Bhagirathi-II (6512m) jointly organised by the Indian Mountaineering Association and Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board from the latter’s office in Garhi Cantt. The minister handed flags to the captains of the two expedition teams. Notably, the two teams have 12 members each. In his address, Maharaj said that the objective of organising such mountaineering expeditions is to promote adventure sports in the State which, in its turn, would open new avenues of employment for the local people. He further said that special tourism development focus is being trained on Gaudi and Auli and added that Nalang and Jadung valleys are being opened for tourism.
