Public Works minister Satpal Maharaj has taken notice of the alleged murder of a youth from Dadamandi, Dugadda, following a dispute over the removal of debris and the opening of the road by the Poclain driver of Kalyan-Shivalik Infra (JV). This company is responsible for the rehabilitation, upgrade and strengthening of two lanes with a paved road from km 175.00 to km 196.00 (Gumkhal to Satpuli) of NH 119 (now NH-534).

In light of this incident, Maharaj has directed officials to immediately suspend the contract with the company and initiate strict legal action against the responsible driver.

It is important to note that on the night of June 7, 2025, a dispute arose between the Pokland driver of the company and local commuters concerning the opening of the road after mountain cutting. During this altercation, one passenger was injured by the Poclain machine operated by the driver, ultimately leading to the victim’s death.

Maharaj emphasised that the working company should have taken all reasonable precautions to prevent illegal, unruly, or disorderly conduct by its employees and to ensure the safety and peace of the surrounding community. However, the company failed to do so. Additionally, it did not fully remove the debris from the work site after the mountain cutting, resulting in unsafe conditions for commuters.

In accordance with Maharaj’s strict stance and instructions, NH officials have recommended the immediate suspension of the company’s contract.
