Dehradun resident Shakti Singh Barthwal submitted a list containing names of more than 500 such candidates who are contesting the Panchayat election and have their names in voter lists of two and more areas to the State Election Commission on Tuesday. He asked the SEC to take action as per the law against such candidates.
Barthwal said that if the SEC fails to act on the issue then he will file a defamation suit in the HC. He claimed that the order of HC dated July 11 is still effective which bars the candidates having names in two and more voter lists from contesting the Panchayat elections.
Barthwal had filed a petition in the Uttarakhand High Court (HC) challenging the order of the SEC allowing the candidates having names in the multiple voter lists to contest the Panchayat election. On the petition of Barthwal the HC stayed the above mentioned order of the SEC but refused to interfere with the process of the Panchayat election.
