A 74-year old woman was killed by a leopard at Berni village in the Narendranagar area of Tehri district on Friday. The big cat lay in ambush near Devki Devi’s home and pounced upon her when she came out of her room at about 6:30 AM. The big cat dragged her for about 10 metres when hearing her cries, the neighbours also began shouting. On hearing the commotion, the leopard left the woman in an injured state. She succumbed to her injuries on the spot. The village Pradhan Asha Negi informed the Revenue and Forest departments about the incident after which the department personnel reached the village. The locals have demanded that the Forest department should shoot the leopard apart from providing proper compensation to the next of kin of the deceased. It should be mentioned here that a girl in a nearby village had also been attacked by a leopard some days ago. The injured girl is presently undergoing treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh.
