Lakhs visit Haridwar to perform rituals for ancestors

Lakhs of people visited Har Ki Paidi and Narayani Shila temple here on Sarva Pitra Amavasya on Sunday to perform rites for their ancestors. Devotees started arriving at 4 AM and continued arriving till late in the evening. Due to the crowd of devotees, the police had to stop vehicular traffic by putting up barricades as a result of which people walked to the temple.

A large number of devotees also took bath at Har Ki Paidi on the occasion. The police implemented a special traffic plan in the city with the movement of e-rickshaws and other https://www.pioneeredge.in/ongc-spreads-awareness-on-e-mobility/

 vehicles being banned in the zero zone. The police had to stop the movement of vehicles by putting barricades at Tulsi Chowk and Devpura Chowk.  Manoj Tripathi, the chief priest of the Narayani Shila temple, said that it is believed that the ancestors who had come to their homes for the Shraddh Paksh return to the Pitrulok on the new moon day.

Police circle officer (City) Manoj Thakur said that lakhs of people had arrived in the city on the occasion of Sarva Pitra Amavasya. The traffic was diverted for some hours during the morning to manage the crowd, he added.
