Kumbh Mela-2027: Work on several projects gain pace

With preparations going on in full swing for the Kumbh Mela 2027, the Mela Officer Sonika reviewed the progress of the preparatory works involving a host of departments on Wednesday. Strict direction was given to the officials of the departments concerned to speed up so as to ensure that all the works are completed by the timeline stipulated.
The Mela officer was informed that the Public Works Department has begun widening and strengthening the four-lane Bahadrabad-SIIDCUL Road from BHEL barrier No 6 to Shivalik Nagar Chowk. Double-laning and improvement work on the Delhi-Haridwar-Dehradun National Highway 334 from Pantdeep to Ferurupur is also scheduled to begin soon. Construction of a 60-meter span prestressed arch bridge over the Pathri river on the Jwalapur-Idgah-Shivalik Nagar road is progressing rapidly. The Irrigation department has set a target to complete the construction of a 90-meter span bridge over the Old Ganga Canal, downstream of the Pathri river, by the end of December.
Additionally, construction work has begun on several important ghats, from Singhdwar to Rishikul, Rishikul to Sakshi Satnam Ghat and Amrapur Ghat to Tulsi Ghat. New ghats are also being developed on the escape channel which are expected to strengthen crowd management and safe bathing arrangements during the Kumbh Mela period.
To strengthen drinking water supply in the Kumbh area, the Peyjal Nigam has begun construction of a high-rise reservoir, two tube wells and a pump house at Bairagi Camp. Drinking water pipelines and housing projects are underway in Laljiwala, South Haridwar and Gosain Mohalla areas. The Jal Sansthan has also begun construction of tube wells in Pawandham and Shyamlok areas.
Besides, proposals for the Kumbh Mela Administrative Control Building, Ccr-2 building, improvements to the railway feeder route and construction of women’s barracks at the Roshnabad Police Line have been submitted to the government.
