Positivity rate takes a plunge in U’khand

Only two districts have positivity rate higher than 5 per cent

In an indication that the threat from the Covid -19 in Uttarakhand has decreased substantially in the last few days, the positivity rate in 11 out of 13 districts of the state has come below the 5 per cent mark considered crucial in determining the extent of the contagion in the population. In the period from May 31 to June 6, the state recorded a positivity rate of 2.94 per cent (total tests- 1,93,226; positive cases- 5,686). With a positivity rate of 8.15 per cent Almora is on top of the list while Nainital has a positivity rate of 5.40 percent. In Almora 540 positive cases were reported out of 6,626 tests while in Nainital 703 cases were reported from 13,017 tests.  Pithoragarh district is ranked third with a positivity rate of 4.93 per cent and is followed by Chamoli 4.90 percent, Rudraprayag 4.29 per cent, Pauri 4.28 per cent, Dehradun 2.98 per cent, Uttarkashi 2.70 per cent, Bageshwar 2.56 per cent, Champawat 2.20 per cent, Tehri 2.19 per cent, Udham Singh Nagar 1.88 per cent and Haridwar 1.56 per cent. Incidentally for the period May 24 to May 30, ten districts had a weekly positivity rate in excess of five per cent. In the week corresponding to May 27 to June 2, six districts had a positivity rate higher than five per cent while the period of May 31 to June 6 saw only two districts with higher positivity rate than five per cent in the state. 

The provisional state capital Dehradun which remained as a hotspot of the disease also saw a sharp decline in positivity rate and number of active cases. On May 30, the weekly positivity rate in Dehradun district was 5.35 per cent which slipped to 2.98 per cent within a week. The number of active cases in Dehradun too has witnessed a major drop of 69 per cent within a week.  On May 30, Dehradun had 3,937 active cases which reduced to 1,231 on June 6.
