The traffic on the strategic Malari Highway which connects to the Indo-  China border which was affected by the recent heavy rains has been restored till Tamak. However the locals are still facing problems as the Highway is blocked in Tamak.

The local residents migrate between their summer and winter homes and the time has arrived to move to their winter locations but  the blocked road is creating problems in their movement. Heavy rain of October 17 triggered landslides in the area due to which the Joshimath- Malari highway got blocked at many places.

After five days the Border Road Organisation (BRO) was able to open the road till Tamak. In Tamak the BRO personnel are facing an uphill task as debris and rocks are still falling on the road. The Commander of BRO, Manish Kapil said that vehicle movement on the road was started after making a new cutting in Saldhar. He said that the complete highway would be opened when the rock -fall stops at Tamak.
