The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) expedition team which successfully climbed Balbala peak received a rousing welcome on its return at the Joshimath camp.
The ITBP team is the first to summit this 21,050 feet high peak in the area bordering the Tibetan region after it was last climbed by a Swiss expedition team in 1947. The technical challenges in climbing this peak make it very difficult and dangerous to summit. When the ITBP team started their ascent to the peak on September 4 snowfall and strong winds were experienced in the morning.
The team climbed the peak at about 2 PM.The team members who climbed the peak included company commander Bheem, soldiers Praveen, Pradeep, Sunil and expedition guide Rajendra Singh Martoliya.
